Dynamical Meteorology I
Dr Jenni Evans

Welcome to Dynamical Meteorology I (Meteo 421)!

The major goal of this class is to introduce you to the equations that govern atmospheric motions.
Our approach will involve: (i) introduction to fundamental physical and mathematical concepts; (ii) exploring the complete set of primitive equations that describe atmospheric motions; (iii) kinematics (description of the flow, rather than the forces); (iv) familiarization with the very powerful concepts of vorticity, circulation and potential vorticity; (v) exploring the underlying physics in these equations for a range of balanced flows; (vi) reviewing the neutral boundary layer; and, if there's time, (vii) discussion of basic concepts important in numerical modeling.
