Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:15-12:30 in 110 Walker

Class Visit

Thursday, March 27 from 1:00-5:00pm in the Nittany Lion Inn Ballroom: "The Value of Meteorology to Business and Society"    This seminar series addresses the value of various weather and climate forecast products to the wider community. Dr. Bob Livezey (Chief, Climate Service Division, National Weather Service) will speak on "New weather markets". Please attend at least this seminar!

I have arranged for Bob to meet with us on Friday morning, 28 March for a more general discussion on approaches to seasonal climate forecasting. Please invest some time in the next week or so thinking about this topic. You might find it interesting to look around the Climate Service Division website. They have a variety of seasonal climate forecast products you could find inspiring for your ruminations.

Rescheduled Classes

Will be held in room 511 Walker  Mondays 17 March, 7, 14 and 21 April. Class will not be held on Tuesday, 25 March.

Project 3    Model Validation

27 March 2003, Thursday    Come to class prepared to defend your choice of a climate model intercomparison paper for the class to review. You should have scanned this paper and be sure that you have a good idea of the basic goal and approach used. Project 3 will be something more like a journal club, so it is important that we plan ahead so that everyone has the time to read and think about each of the papers presented.
